Founded in 1984, Animal Care Society is a 501(c)(3) non-profit No Kill adoption agency for dogs and cats. Their mission is to find new, safe and loving furever homes for adoptable dogs, cats, puppies and kittens. They speak for the voiceless and lead by example in their ongoing work to provide responsible and humane treatment to their dog and cat guests until they can find them appropriate homes. This non-profit is very near and dear to Stone Legal Group, PLLC as several of our team members have adopted their furbabies from Animal Care Society. Most recently, Thomas Stone adopted “Stubbs” in September 2018, whose position in the firm is Director of Morale. I myself currently have two adorable cats “River” and “Tonks” who were adopted from the Animal Care Society three years ago.
Over the last ten years, Animal Care Society has placed over 10,000 pets into devoted and responsible homes. They are proud of their success and sustained positive impact on the community.
Animal Care Society is a privately funded, volunteer driven organization whose financial support comes solely through annual subscriptions memberships, adoption fees, donations and fundraisers. They receive no federal, state or local government funding.
Fundraising provides nearly 40% of the finances required for Animal Care Society to operate their shelter. While the public only thinks of Animal Care Society fundraising events as dates on a calendar, the staff and volunteers work continuously behind the scenes to create, design and implement each occasion.
Animal Care Society’s flagship event is Bark in the Park, which happens every September in one of Metro Louisville’s most popular green spaces, Seneca Park. They just had their 15th Bark in the Park, which featured contests and a silent auction. They also just added Lure Coursing this year which the attendees loved! This family and canine friendly event has become a perennial favorite among vendors and festival goers alike.
Their next fundraising event is the Bow Wow Meow Christmas Boutique. Starting in the summer, the Animal Care Society “elves” begin gathering items for this fabulous holiday event. Shoppers are delighted with charming gift basket after gift basket. Every possible basket has been made, themed baskets, kids, summer, Christmas, liquor, etc. Generous patrons have been known to need assistance to their vehicles with their loads of bargains! This year the Bow Wow Meow Christmas Boutique will be November 30th from 10-5, December 1st from 10-5 and December 2nd from 11-5 and will be held at 4000 Collins Lane, Louisville, Kentucky.
The month of March brings their next fundraiser Animal Care Society Benefit Bash, which is held at the Mellwood Art Center. The 5th annual Animal Care Society Benefit Bash is scheduled for March 16, 2019 from 6-11 p.m. It boasts a night of dinner, dancing, complementary bar, as well as live and silent auctions. If you love a big cocktail party, you will love this event!
In 2014, Executive Director Bunny Zeller started the The Re-Tail Thrift Shop located at 10519 Watterson Trail in the heart of Jeffersontown. All items are donated and proceeds benefit the Animal Care Society. In additional to animal items, they have everything just like a regular thrift shop, such as kitchen and bathroom items, fun décor, jewelry, seasonal, etc.
In order to help the Animal Care Society, Stone Legal Group, PLLC is holding a donation drive for their “Wish List” items necessary for the ongoing care of these precious animals at their shelter.
