As a proud supporter of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ+) community, we are excited to announce our participation once again in The Louisville Pride Festival, which takes place Saturday, September 18. Located in the Highlands, this festival celebrates our diverse LGBTQ+ community and promotes acceptance of all people with family-friendly entertainment, arts-n-crafts, and numerous vendors.
The month of June is also an opportunity to recognize this LGBTQ+ community with an official ‘Pride Month’, celebrating the contributions of this community. This proclamation all began with the famous uprising in June 1969 at the Stonewall Inn in Manhattan, which was a turning point for the Gay Liberation Movement in the United States. Read more here.
Pride Month is a time to recall the trials the LGBTQ+ community has endured and to rejoice in the triumphs of individuals who have fought — and continue to fight — for full equality. Pride Month is also a time for personal celebration of self-worth and dignity for all.
Celebrations across the nation include pride parades, picnics, parties, concerts, festivals, memorials, and workshops. Closer to home, several events are planned at local venues in June, September, and later in October at the Kentuckiana Pride Festival.
